Our Story

Mezcal Tatemado comes from talking with our grandmother Jovita. She tells us that since very young, she worked as a traditional cook in the preparation of large traditional holiday meals. At that time, in the absence of oil, to make traditional mole, the ingredients were roasted (TATEMADO) but it had to be done at the correct point, if they were not roasted enough the ingredients did not release their aromas and flavors, but if it the ingredients were overcooked, the mole became bitter. That's where our name comes from.

In our mezcal we do the same with the agave, we look for the perfect point of maturity, cooking, and distillation so that people can enjoy the exquisite flavors and aromas when it comes to delighting our mezcal. This is how MEZCAL TATEMADO arises.

Guadalupe Guzman Pacheco started with this dream in 2016 when she planted her first agave. Initially her goal was only to plant agave. As she became more involved with the community she realized the need and lack of support it had. She then had the idea of creating Grupo Mezcalero Tatemado to help in the development of her communities

At Grupo Mescalero Tatemado we seek to honor our ancestors and we are proud to be able to preserve and share our artisanal processes through the hands of masters 4th and 5th generation mezcaleros who belong to a community of Zapotec origin and who still to this day preserve their native language. We are committed to the preservation of our lands, our culture and our traditions.

Our goal is that in each bottle of TATEMADO mezcal, apart from carrying an exquisite mezcal, also carry culture, art and tradition of Oaxaca. At the same time that we support the development of our communities and make Oaxaca known for everything it has to offer.
